Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 September 2026

The short version: BudgetWiseTools has no user accounts and no server. Every calculation happens in your own browser. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your financial information, because we never receive it in the first place.

What this site stores

BudgetWiseTools is a static website. Anything it remembers is written to your browser's localStorage, which keeps it on your own device. There are four entries in total:

  • budgetwise_saved_calculations — calculations you have explicitly saved with the Save button. Each holds the figures you typed and the results worked out from them, along with which calculator produced it and when. The most recent 50 are kept.
  • 52-week-challenge — your progress through the 52-Week Savings Challenge: which weeks you have ticked off, the week you are on, and the challenge variant. This one saves automatically as you tick weeks, so the tracker still knows where you are when you come back.
  • subscription-audit — the list of subscriptions you entered into the Subscription Audit calculator, saved automatically for the same reason.
  • darkMode — whether you chose the light or dark theme.

Apart from the two trackers above, which save as you go so your progress survives closing the tab, nothing is written unless you press Save. Typing into a calculator and reading the answer stores nothing.

None of this is transmitted anywhere. It is not tied to your name, email address or any identifier, and we have no way to read it.

Some calculators handle sensitive details

The benefits tools — SNAP, Medicaid coverage gap, EITC and the tax refund estimator — ask about things like household income, disability, pregnancy and medical costs. That information is treated exactly like every other number on the site: it is used to work out an answer in your browser and it is never sent to us.

It does mean saved results can be read by anyone who later uses the same browser profile. If you are on a shared or public computer — a library, a school, a family machine — either skip Save, or clear the site's data before you leave.

What this site does not do

  • No user accounts, sign-ups or logins.
  • No cookies.
  • No analytics or tracking scripts.
  • No advertising (see below).
  • No newsletter, and no mailing list to join.
  • No third-party embeds that could profile you.

Sharing a result

The Share button copies a link to the calculator itself. The link never contains your figures, so opening it shows an empty calculator, not your answer. If you choose the email option, the summary is placed in your own email program for you to review before sending — it does not pass through us.

Advertising

This site does not currently display advertising and does not use any advertising cookies or identifiers.

If that changes, this policy will be updated before any ads appear, and it will name the ad provider, explain the cookies and identifiers involved, and tell you how to manage your choices — including a consent prompt where the law requires one.

Controlling and deleting your data

Because everything lives in your browser, you are in full control of it. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain permanently erases every saved calculation. Using a private or incognito window means nothing is retained once you close it.

There is nothing for us to delete on request, because we hold nothing. Saved calculations are per-browser and per-device: they do not follow you to another computer, and another person using a different browser cannot see them.

These are estimates, not advice

Every calculator here is a simplified model. Benefits eligibility, tax credits and interest costs depend on rules that change and on details these tools do not ask for. Treat the results as a starting point for a conversation with the relevant agency or a qualified adviser, not as a determination.

Children

This site is intended for adults managing a household budget. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes — particularly the introduction of advertising, analytics or any form of data collection — will be described here explicitly rather than folded in silently.

3 September 2026: the newsletter signup was removed before launch, so the site now sends nothing anywhere and collects no email addresses. This page previously described that form and a mailing list; both are gone.
